"Now THERE'S Something You Don't See Every Day." Okay...I confess, I have _no_ idea what's going on with this picture. See, most of my Darkwing artwork is done by looking at screenshots while I draw and being very _very_ careful at all times...but one day, I thought it might be fun to do a simple "doodle" type sketch of a Darkwing character or two, from just memory alone. (Yes, this is from memory. Yes, I agree that this is the point at which I need to put down the tapes and come away from the VCR slowly, with my hands up. :P) So I started off just doing random doodles of characters' faces (doing them in MSPaint, as are my other pictures, but _freehand_, and using the default thickness paintbrush, which is why the thicker, more "cartoony" outlines) and I started off by drawing the faces of Megavolt and Bushroot, my two favourite characters. Well, after that, I then thought I should draw their whole selves instead of having heads floating in mid-air, so I did, and then I just HAD to colour them in, and then, being _me_, I just HAD to put _shading_...so, what was originally meant to be a simple, quick, casual, "toss-it-off-for-fun" doodle ended up being...way more complex. And this surprises you _how_? :P
What _does_ surprise ME, however, is the pose and expressions they ended up with. It appears that Bushroot is sad about something...and MEGAVOLT, of all people, is trying to cheer him up? Those two _totally_ don't get along! Originally, the expressions were different--Bushroot looked worried/doubtful and Megavolt had this evil conspiratorial _leer_ on his face, like he was trying to talk Bushroot into going along with an evil plan. (Which is only _slightly_ less likely than what's happening in the finished picture.) But I like this way better...in-character or not, it's sorta sweet. Awww...
What can I say...sometimes, when I'm drawing, the picture just gets AWAY from me and does whatever _it_ wants, regardless of rhyme or reason. This is one of those times. If you really _want_ to ask two of the most powerful mutants in all St. Canard what they're thinking, let me know. Me, I'll be sitting over here.
...WAY over here. ;)
