At the hop! Here we see four DuckTales characters--in the FIFTIES! In the front are Gandra Dee and Fenton Crackshell, dancing. (How could I RESIST the chance to dress up somebody named Gandra Dee in '50s clothes, I ASK you?!) and behind them, preparing to take the juekebox apart and "improve" it, and just loungin' around lookin' cool with a strawberry milkshake, are Gyro Gearloose and Launchpad McQuack, respectively.
I had FUN with the costumes for this. Notice that the style of everybody's outfits have been changed...but they are still in the same basic COLOUR-SCHEME as the originals! ;) Fenton and Gandra are just your basic everyday teenyboppers, (I had fun with Fenton's T-shirt...but then again, if he DIDN'T belong to the Math Club when he was in high school, I will be very surprised...) I copied Gandra's saddle-shoes off of my own. Yes, I own a pair of saddle-shoes...WHAT?!
Gyro is done up a little more formally rather than in cool modern "young" clothes; he's an INVENTOR, what does he care about fashion?
He's kind of the classic nerd, with the pens in his pocket and the bow-tie and all. Still, I think he looks totally precious in this outfit.
Launchpad...well, I was trying for a "bad-boy" rebel biker look, with him. However, when I made it BROWN, like LP's jacket, it turned out looking more like a bomber-jacket than a biker! I'm not sure how '50s it is. But notice that in place of the usual goggles on top of his head, he now has 3-D glasses. ;) Anyway, I think LP looks damn COOL in his outfit, that's a really great look for him! Much more serious and dangerous than usual.
However..not QUITE as dangerous and cool as he'd like you to THINK he is. For one thing, no cool, tough, motorcycle-gunning, leather-jacket-wearing loner rebel would even CONSIDER wearing 3D glasses on top of his head, and strawberry milkshakes are not exactly the most "macho" of drink orders. ;)
This picture was my entry for the July 2002 "Detamina" Awards; the theme was "Your favourite characters in the '50s."--and, somehow, it won second place! That's what one of the award pictures down at the bottom of the main cartoon artwork page is for.
I have TOO MANY favourites to choose from, but what made me go with DuckTales is the obvious pun name of Gandra Dee, and the fact that I ADORE Fenton, her boyfriend. Gyro and Launchpad are two other favourites from the show, so that's why they're here. You can kinda consider this a Darkwing picture, since two of the people in it are crossover characters.
Also, I must point out, that even though it's called "Duck to the '50s!"... technically two of the people in it aren't ducks. ;)
